Bay Area Restaurants Beware: New Scam Reported

The Consumer Protection Unit of the SF District Attorney’s Office received a complaint from a local restaurant regarding a fraudulent invoice from something called N.P.S. Lateral Sewer Services. This restaurant never used services from this company.

It appears that N.P.S. Lateral Sewer Services has been billing restaurants for nonexistent services for a number of years. See alerts issued in other jurisdictions below:

If your restaurant receives an invoice that you believe to be fraudulent, we advise you to:

1. Alert the The Consumer Protection Unit of the SF District Attorney’s Office and forward them any of the suspicious invoices. Contact: ethel.newlin@sfgov.org

  • In the case of N.P.S. Lateral Sewer Services, the company uses an address in Irvine, CA. All complaints will be forwarded to the Los Angeles County Dept. of Consumer Affairs for review.

2. Inform the GGRA so that we may alert our member community.
