Fed-State Basic Payroll Tax Seminar

The U.S. Small Business Administration is hosting a free seminar on Federal / State Basic and Payroll Tax on December 8, 2015 from 9 am to 3 pm. The focus of the presentation will be what employers need to know about the following items:

  • How to keep up with the latest information concerning Federal and State payroll tax laws
  • How and when to establish account numbers with IRS and EDD
  • What forms must be completed when hiring new employees
  • Required notices and pamphlets for new employees
  • Advantages of electronic filing and payment
  • Federal and State posting requirements
  • What types of payments are considered taxable wages
  • Tax rates for the various Federal and State payroll taxes, and who pays them
  • How and when to make payroll tax deposits and file reports, including step-by-step examples
  • The differences between employees and independent contractors
  • How to make employment status determinations (employee or independent contractor)
  • Reasons to properly classify workers and misclassification consequences
  • How to get help at no cost
  • Reporting requirements for independent contractors

This seminar is typically attended by business owners and their agents (payroll services, bookkeepers, CPAs, etc.) as well as people who work in either payroll or human resources.
