Refugee Food Festival – San Francisco

June 19 - June 23

The third Refugee Food Festival is coming to 14 cities around the world this June and San Francisco will be one of the first US cities to host.

The organization pairs local chefs and refugee chefs together for 5 days of pop-up dinners. For its first stateside activation, the Refugee Food Festival has partnered with the Golden Gate Restaurant Association to drive awareness to programming.

“San Francisco is a great fit as an inaugural Refugee Food Festival US city because of its emphasis on integration and its celebration of diversity,” said Sara Shah, San Francisco Project Manager for the Refugee Food Festival. “I knew the social atmosphere embedded in San Francisco culture would make it the perfect city to welcome RFF with open hearts. Not to mention the quality of food and the restaurant scene throughout the Bay Area are unparalleled.”

In SF the following chefs will participate, cooking alongside refugee chefs:

  • Tuesday, June 19th – Hog Island in the Ferry Building featuring Pa Wah a Burmese chef
  • Wednesday, June 20th – Tawla in the Mission District featuring Muna an Iraqi chef
  • Thursday, June 21st – DOSA on Fillmore featuring Anu a Bhutanese chef
  • Friday, June 22nd – Son’s Addition in the Mission District featuring Muna an Iraqi chef
  • Saturday, June 23rd – Jardiniere in Hayes Valley featuring Vito a Senegalese chef

This is not a ticketed event and reservations can be made via each restaurant’s reservation system. A portion of profits from each dinner will be donated to a local organization in the Bay Area promoting integrating refugees into communities.
