First Immigration Workshop & Sanctuary Restaurants

On Monday, March 20th, 2017, the first of a series of immigration workshops took place at Don Ramon’s in the Mission. After an opening remark from Assemblymember David Chiu, GGRA’s Executive Director, Gwyneth Borden participated on a panel with Maria-Victoria Castro (Executive Director, La Raza Centro Legal), Megan Sallomi (Immigration Attorney, San Francisco Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights), William Ortiz Cartagena (Business Owner, Cartagena Consulting), Enrique Ramirez (Immigration Attorney, Law Offices of Enrique Ramirez), Lucy Mejia (Immigration Attorney, Law Offices of Salgado & Associates), and ROC representative discussed ways to ensure safe workspaces for immigrant workers. The open dialogue around concerns and accomplishments around becoming a sanctuary restaurant highlights the importance of continuing the conversation and providing important materials and resources.

The next conversation around Immigration will take place at the GGRA Industry Conference on April 10-11, 2017. Future workshops will be scheduled soon. More information on Sanctuary Restaurants is available here.
