February 2nd: Ground Hog Day Job Shadows

posted on Wednesday, Oct 19, 2011

Over the last several years a growing number of high school students in the San Francisco Unified School District have been filling classes directly related to careers in culinary and hospitality. Makes sense in a city like San Francisco where food and hospitality are at the center of so much. As a result, the school district has expanded their curriculum to include culinary, hospitality and tourism programs at three high schools: Galileo, George Washington and Ida B Wells.

Every February 2nd restaurants, bakeries and hotels have the opportunity to provide one day job shadows to these students to give them their first real look into the industry they are interested in by participating in the Ground Hog Day Job Shadows. The goal is to directly connect students with businesses that will nurture their growing interest in culinary and hospitality and expose them to the variety of options out there to express it. Many of these students will be your future employees. What a great way to introduce them to the industry!
