Unsubstantiated 25% Tip Story Getting Lots of Buzz
posted on Friday, Oct 14, 2011
On October 12th, Ed Arnow of the San Jose Mercury News published a story citing only “media sources” that San Francisco restaurant and restaurant workers were trying to create a 25% tip standard. This unsubstantiated story has quickly taken on a life of its own and morphed into a desire by restaurants to create a 25% mandatory tip. These reports and stories are unsubstantiated and to the best of our knowledge have no basis in fact. Normally, we would not respond to such news reports, but this type of inaccurate story can do significant harm to San Francisco’s reputation as a culinary and tourist destination.
