Young’s Market Company: Prop C Surcharge to be Removed Feb. 1, 2019

Young’s Market Company informed their SF accounts they would be increasing its wholesale tax rate starting January 1, 2019 citing Prop C as the reason for the increase. Read more here.  They have since issued notice the surcharge would be removed Feb.1, 2019. Please see message below issued by the company:

To our valued San Francisco County customers,

We Heard You: We listened to you and clearly heard the concerns raised by our customers in San Francisco County. As a result, we’re removing the Prop C local receipts surcharge on invoices within San Francisco County beginning February 1, 2019.

Background: On January 1, 2019, Young’s issued a surcharge on invoices for transactions within San Francisco County consistent with the adoption of Prop C.

Proceeds to Benefit the City’s Homeless Population: While we know you would appreciate the surcharge proceeds returned to you, the law prohibits us from doing that. Therefore, Young’s will donate the money collected in January 2019, plus a donation match from the company itself, to charitable organizations dedicated to serving the city’s homeless population: Downtown Streets Team and The Healing Well, a project of Community Initiatives.

We truly value our partnership with you and our San Francisco community. If you have any
questions, please reach out to your sales representative.
